The Canadian Pacific Northwest LNG export project planned by Malaysian energy company Petronas and its Asian partners is seeking to move part of the US$27-billion venture away from Lelu Island and onto another island near the port of Prince Rupert in British Columbia to ease mitigation measures and lower costs.

Norway held its position as the third-largest exporter of natural gas in the world last year after Russia and Qatar and continued to ship LNG cargoes to both Northwest Europe and the Mediterranean region, according to the latest survey of the Norwegian energy industry by the US Government.

Australian energy company Santos has announced a natural gas discovery in Papua New Guinea for a key licence held with stakeholders in the PNG LNG plant and a second liquefaction venture planned for the Oceania nation.

Tokyo Electric Power Co., and Tokyo Gas, the first and third biggest liquefied natural gas users, will enter completion in the metropolitan city-gas retail market in July 2017, a move that will affect the Japan-bound LNG cargo market.
