Höegh has thrown a lifeline to Egypt by agreeing to deploy a floating LNG import terminal, chartered to Australia, beforehand to the Arab nation to preempt fuel shortages. EGAS sub-chartered the FSRU ‘Höegh Galleon’ for service in the Gulf of Suez port of Ain Sokhna for up to 20 months, though extrapolating from ship tracking data the vessel is unlikely to arrive before the end of the first week of June; our Markets Editor Anja Karl investigates. 

A major legislative change, market conditions and the ongoing development of offshore gas resources have raised prospects of Turkey evolving into a gas hub using surplus imports and even its own production. KR addresses cryogenic insulation materials

The Korean Register of Shipping (KR) has published a research report entitled ‘Guide to Selection of Thermal Properties for Cryogenic Insulation Materials’. 

As demand for LNG as a maritime fuel continues to grow, the need to continually adapt capabilities can add operational drag for organisations but some ports are proactively navigating these challenges by coordinating simultaneous investment in infrastructure, training, and technology. CHINA imported more than 30 percent more liquefied natural gas in April than in the same month last year but shipments were still less than in March 2024, signalling an LNG surge that will increase this year’s overall total.
