A new wind-assisted LNGC design has received an Approval in Principle (AiP) from French class society, Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore (BV).
The endorsement confirms the technical feasibility and regulatory readiness of integrating wind-assisted propulsion into mainstream LNGC operations, BV said.
Developed by China’s shipbuilding concern, DSIC, the design is an integrated solution, combining LNG dual-fuel propulsion with sail-assisted technology, offering a practical and cost-controlled upgrade pathway for 175,000 cu m LNGCs.
The concept was designed to deliver improved energy efficiency, while maintaining operational reliability and ease of maintenance, BV added.
