The Belgian Cabinet has approved a draft decision to ban the re-export of LNG loaded in Russian ports, in accordance with the EU sanctions imposed earlier, the government's press service said,

The draft royal decree provides for a number of obligations and control mechanisms designed to ensure compliance with bans within the framework of EU Regulation 2024/1745, the document said.

This decision provides for a ban on the transhipment of LNG from Russia, as well as the provision of related technical or financial services.

However, it has yet to be approved by the Belgian Council of State, which monitors compliance with Belgian laws.

In June 2024, the EU imposed sanctions that from March, 2025 will restrict the provision of services for the transport of Russian LNG through terminals in the European Union to third countries, but EU members will still be able to continue to buy the gas from Russia.

The EU’s ban applies both to the transhipment of fuel from one vessel to another, and to offloading off the coast.
