bp has been contracted by India’s Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC) to act as the technical services provider (TSP) for the Mumbai High field.

Mumbai High is India’s largest and most prolific offshore oil field and lies around 160 km off the Mumbai coast.

As the TSP, bp will conduct a comprehensive review of the field’s performance and identify improvements, as well as implement suitable technological interventions and practices for improving production and recovery from this important national resource.

Mumbai High was discovered in February, 1974 and started production in May of 1976. It accounts for almost 25% of India's production. The field is estimated to have a balance reserve of 80 mill tonnes of oil and over 40 bill cu m of gas.

bp will serve in an advisory role to ONGC identifying recovery technologies and practices with the aim of stabilising production and reversing decline, returning production from the oilfield to a strong growth pattern.

The UK energy giant’s involvement will include well work and system modeling optimisations, reservoir management, seismic technology, access to unconventional reservoirs, through fracturing technology, and IOR/EOR leading to long term production delivery by 2035.
