India’s Hindustan Petroleum Corp (HPCL) has commissioned its LNG regasification terminal at Chhara, Gujarat.

The terminal, developed by HPCL’s subsidiary, HPLNG, represents a major leap in India’s energy infrastructure, at a cost of ₹4,750 crore, the company claimed.

The terminal began operations on 6th January, 2025, with its first cargo, which completed discharged on 12th January, 2025.

Chhara was designed to offer both flexibility and scalability and features:

*Efficient discharge of LNGCs.

*Storage and road tanker loading.

*Regasification capabilities.

*National gas grid connectivity.

One of the most notable features of the terminal is its potential for expansion, HPCL said

The facility initially has a capacity of 5 mill tonnes per annum, with potential for expansion to accommodate up to 10 mill tonnes per annum.

Chhara will operate under a tolling model, allowing third-party access through long-term contracts and spot cargo agreements.
