Hong Kong’s plans for an LNG import terminal on South Soko Island are likely to be revised because of environmental concerns and the development company is now expected to find a new site on the Chinese mainland.

Adriatic LNG, the world’s first concrete structure-based offshore LNG import terminal being developed by ExxonMobil and Qatar Petroleum, will take shape on September 20 offshore Italy when the LNG storage caisson arrives from southern Spain.

France’s Total said it expected its LNG volumes to surge by the middle of the next decade when it would overtake ExxonMobil in terms of offtake and would be selling the equivalent of around 330 LNG cargoes a year compared with 150 cargoes last year.

US imports of LNG have been severely hampered by global LNG demand growth and higher relative prices in the Asia-Pacific region and Europe, pushing forecast US LNG imports down more than 50 percent this year to under 7 million tonnes.
