Tokyo Gas Co., the leading  corporate buyer of LNG, said its formula for weathering the global financial crisis was to push forward its strategy of investing in liquefaction projects, and suggested Asian countries such as China and India were now likely to be less effective in securing new LNG supplies.

Royal Dutch Shell and PetroChina have signed a further agreement for the Anglo-Dutch company to supply China’s largest energy operator with 2 million tonnes per annum of LNG over 20 years.

Energy executives are gathering in Italy for the 23rd Annual European Autumn Gas Conference, covering LNG and pipeline gas, and which takes on special significance because of the current turmoil in commodity and financial markets.

Gazprom said it would make it first LNG shipment to Japan in February 2009 from its delayed $20-billion Sakhalin II LNG project in the Russian Ear East.
