Italy’s energy major Eni has agreed to acquire a 32% interest in three upstream blocks in the Vaca Muerta basin, designated as feedstock for an Argentine LNG export project. China June LNG imports seen flat

Free Read

China’s LNG imports in June are expected to be broadly unchanged from a year earlier at around 5.29 million tonnes, according to Kpler data cited by Bloomberg. The forecast implies a month-on-month increase from May imports of 4.9 million tonnes, as demand strengthens ahead of peak summer cooling, driven by higher air-conditioning use.

South Korea’s steady inflow of Qatari LNG of roughly 0.6-0.9 MMt per month for the past two years was disrupted by the Ras Laffan air strikes in March and the subsequent force majeure. The last Qatari cargo to date discharged at Incheon on 9 March, with replacement volumes scattered across multiple sources.

Spain’s Bilbao port chief has urged the European Union to delay its 2027 ban on Russian LNG, arguing the bloc needs “more resilience” and noting Russian cargoes are often cheaper than U.S. supplies.

Poland’s ORLEN and Ukraine’s Naftogaz Group have agreed to deepen their LNG cooperation by jointly using regasification terminals and transmission infrastructure across the Baltic and Eastern Europe, which would include Poland’s Świnoujście terminal as part of the wider logistics chain.

Asian countries are stepping up investment in domestic energy to curb reliance on imported LNG, as energy security overtakes cost following the three-month disruption of the Strait of Hormuz. China, India and Pakistan are accelerating spending on coal, renewables and nuclear power to reduce exposure to LNG imports.

The Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) sees global gas markets are on track to stabilize during the third quarter as the Strait of Hormuz reopens following the U.S.-Iran ceasefire. If the Strait stays open, shipping will begin to re-stabilise and rates will recede quickly, Philip Mshelbila, GEFC secretary general said at a Reuters forum.

Golden Pass LNG, the QatarEnergy and ExxonMobil joint venture, has received U.S. regulatory approval to begin preliminary commissioning activities on Train 2 – just two days after the company filed its request.

A suspected drone strike on a merchant vessel near the Strait of Hormuz is testing a fragile U.S.–Iran framework agreement to restore shipping flows through one of the world’s most critical energy corridors, with implications for LNG trade.

The European Union cannot set climate rules for the rest of the world as it moves to penalise LNG imports based on methane emissions, Philip Mshelbila, secretary general of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) said at the Reuters Global Energy Forum in New York.
