PipeChina is gearing up to add a second regasification terminal for cargoes from Russia’s sanctioned Arctic LNG 2 project. The newly built Longkou LNG terminal in Shandong province meant to receive shipments before October.

Bullishness abounds for LNG prices and winter 2026/27 contracts at Europe’s benchmark TTF gas trading hub after US President Donald Trump threatened to impose a US toll on shipments through the Strait of Hormuz. For spot prices, the sell-off after the peace memorandum was short-lived.

Trading and reselling Russian LNG will be forbidden for EU-based companies starting from 2027 – regardless if the Russian LNG is destined for the European Union or not, EU Energy Commissioner Dan Jorgensen specified.

GTT has received an order from China Chengda Engineering Co. to design three very large onshore LNG storage tanks for PipeChina’s Yuedong LNG terminal in Jieyang, Guangdong province.

Southeast Asian nations have agreed deepen cooperation in renewable energy, natural gas and LNG, though fell short on specifying binding targets or projects. Analysts say ASEAN’s emphasis on LNG reflects both immediate energy security concerns and longer-term transition strategies.  Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines, are increasing LNG import capacity to offset declining domestic gas production, reduce reliance on coal while transitioning to a lower-carbon energy system.

Unions end Ichthys LNG strike

Australian unions have ceased all strike actions at Ichthys LNG onshore and offshore facilities, having reached a pay deal with Japan’s Inpex. The walkout began on June 2 and had forced Inpex to shut one of two liquefaction trains at its plant in Darwin this week.

Tehran will reopen the Strait of Hormuz immediately after the US and Iran signed a memorandum to end the conflict in Versailles late on June 17 – earlier than planned. Oil and gas prices fell sharply on the news, and LNG benchmarks trimmed the geopolitical risk premium that has buoyed them since the conflict intensified.
