South Korean shipbuilder, Hanwha Ocean said in a regulatory filing that it has secured an order for two LNGCs worth Won738.3 bill ($502.1 mill) from an Oceania-based shipowner.

With this order, Hanwha Ocean has already won contracts this year for five vessels worth about $890 mill, including three VLCCs and two LNGCs.

Hanwha said that it expects demand for replacing ageing vessels to continue over the mid to long term, due to tighter environmental regulations and rising demand for fuel efficiency.

The shipbuilder also forecast growing demand for LNGCs driven by the development of LNG terminals, particularly in the US.

This order follows China’s Jiangnan Shipyard contract for two 174,000 cu m LNGCs from Singapore’s Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS).

No price was disclosed. The pair are due to be delivered in the third quarter of 2028.

EPS recently entered the LNG sector by merging with CoolCo.
