Colombia’s Ecopetrol opened a bidding process on 14th October for a new LNG regasification plant at its proposed Coveñas terminal.
The company plans to select a contractor by the end of this year.
This project will include an FSRU capable of importing 400 mill cu ft per day of gas by 2030.
To be developed by Ecopetrol, the project aims to diversify Colombia’s gas import infrastructure, complementing the existing Cartagena terminal.
Ecopetrol intends to utilisee the existing infrastructure at the Cenit-operated Coveñas port in Sucre province to host the FSRU and connect the unit to the Cańo Limón/Coveñas gas pipeline.
The terminal's operations will require conversion of the transport infrastructure between Coveñas, Jobo, and Vasconia.
This will allow the terminal to have an initial regasification capacity of 130 mill cu ft per day by 2027, increasing by 2029, when the conversion of all the required infrastructure is finalised.
