Private Honduran Energy company, Genesis Energías confirmed that the FSU ‘Bilbao Knutsen’ had arrived at Puerto Cortés this week to provide LNG to the country.
Genesis said that the ship, “a key part of the national energy infrastructure,” will remain in Honduras for 18 years.
The 2004-built, 138,000 cu m ‘Bilbao Knutsen’ was converted from an LNGC specifically for this charter by HD Hyundai Marine Solution.
The FSU will support efforts to deliver “cleaner, more accessible, and more competitive” energy as part of Honduras’s energy transition, the company added.
LNG will be imported through a new terminal currently under construction at Puerto Cortes utilising ‘Bilbao Knutsen’ for the onward transport of LNG to the Brassavola thermal power plant.
UK law firm, Watson Farley & Williams had advised Genesis on the charter with Knutsen.
