Norwegian state owned energy major, Equinor, has been making enquiries with shipyards for up to four LNGC newbuildings, according to various sources.
It was believed that Equinor will need the vessels to replace older tonnage and to support its growing LNG portfolio.
Around 90 LNGC newbuildings are due to be delivered this year but orders have slowed thus far.
Brokers said the Norwegian company is seeking offers for two firm ships, plus options for another two.
