The Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port Kolkata is planning an FLNG terminal at the Haldia Dock complex.
The port authority has awarded a 30-year land and waterfront licence to a consortium involving Invenire Petrodyne and Excelerate Global Operations.
About 10 acres of land and 15 acres of water area will be allotted for an FSRU or an FSU.
There will also be a land-based regasification facility with a capacity 1.5 mill tonnes per annum .
This project could be expanded up to 3 mill tonnes as per market demand.
The consortium won the licence through a competitive bidding process with an upfront rent commitment of Rs24.4 crore, plus royalty on land.
This will be the first FSRU project to be installed in India’s 12 major ports. The first phase is targeted for commissioning in the second half of 2027.
Haldia’s GAIL gas pipeline is expected to be commissioned by March, 2026, which could be used to carry the regasified natural gas across India.
The proposed facility is expected to play a key role in meeting the rising demand for natural gas in eastern India, which will be driven by industries, power plants and city gas distributors seeking clean energy solutions, local media said.
