Indian state-owned LNG importer, Petronet LNG has signed a contract to supply gas to Sri Lankan engineering firm LTL Holdings' power plants in Colombo.

Petronet will initially supply LNG to LTL for five years utilising its terminal at Kochi, it said in an Indian stock exchange filing.

Sri Lanka has suffered from severe power blackouts and fuel shortages in the aftermath of an economic crisis in 2022.

In February, Petronet's CEO had revealed that the company planned to start supplying LNG to Sri Lanka for five years starting in 2025.

Petronet would supply 850 tonnes of LNG per day to Sri Lanka in 50 containers of 17 tonnes capacity each.
