Yantai’s Longkou Port, located in east China's Shandong Province, recently handled a large deck cargo of LNG tank containers.
The vessel involved was the specialist tank container carrier, ‘Tiger Bintulu’, which is capable of carrying nearly 700 LNG tank containers, amounting to about 15,000 tonnes of LNG.
This marked the ship's first voyage on the so called ‘Longkou/Malaysia’ route for LNG imports into China.
According to state-owned Xinhua News Agency, the Longkou Customs co-ordinated the relevant parties to ensure the smooth unloading of the ship.
As a result, some 402 LNG tank containers were successfully unloaded from the vessel within 20 hours.
Located in the central area of the Bohai Rim economic zone, Longkou Port has been making use of its geographical advantages by facilitating the import of LNG tank containers with a fixed route and ships.
Since the beginning of this year, the Longkou Customs has supervised eight shipments of imported LNG tank container carriers, totalling 1,327 LNG container units.
Compared with traditional LNG transportation methods, LNG tank containers are lower cost, have greater applicability, safety, stability, etc, Xinhua reported.
