UK-based energy major Shell entered into an agreement with Chinese state energy infrastructure firm China Oil & Gas Piping Network Corp. – also known as PipeChina – to gain access to PipeChina LNG terminals on a medium- and long-term basis. Whilst BP was first in gaining a direct stake in Chinese regasification capacity and close direct supply contracts with Chinese incumbents, Shell’s deal is likely to involve more significant volumes based on PipeChina’s operational capacity of 29mtpa.
