Plans to increase the global fleet of LNG-fuelled vessels will be a slow process in Northwest Europe and North America even after the introduction of emission control areas since January 1 as operators have mostly opted to use cleaner distillate fuels or exhaust-cleaning systems known as scrubbers.

A Teekay LNG-owned carrier, the 165,500 cubic metres "Magellan Spirit", was grounded after loading up with a cargo and departing the Nigerian Bonny LNG plant in the Niger Delta.

Australia's main liquefaction plant operator Woodside Petroleum, after branching out into North American LNG and Atlantic Basin exploration, has now teamed up with Indian industrial company Adani Enterprises for LNG ventures.

A naming ceremony has been held at the Hudong Zhonghua Shipyard in Shanghai for an LNG carrier built to deliver shipments from the Papua New Guinea LNG plant to China.
