The Gulf nation of Bahrain said it was in the final stages of awarding the construction contract for a liquefied natural gas import terminal with an initial capacity of 3 million tonnes per annum of LNG.

The ICC International Maritime Bureau, a specialised division of the International Chamber of Commerce, has held its annual conference in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur where security concerns were raised for main LNG carrier routes in the Indian Ocean, off Somalia, in South East Asia and the Gulf of Guinea.

Japanese LNG imports recovered in August following July's slump and because the year-on-year figures were so similar it could be seen that Japan's monthly LNG import costs have dropped by $1.5 billion, or almost a third, in the past year because of the oil price slump.

The Alaska LNG project has received its most marketing exposure yet during Governor Bill Walker's week-long visit to Tokyo during which he met dozens of Japanese government officials and LNG company executives and others from around the world as his visit coincided with a global industry conference.
