June 30 (LNG) - The marine propulsion division of UK engine maker Rolls-Royce said it completed the retrofit to LNG fuel for the Norwegian vessel "Bergen Viking". The ship has returned to service following a successful conversion from diesel-electric to LNG-electric propulsion. Rolls-Royce said that it has now delivered a total of 63 LNG engines to ships. The "Bergen Viking" is a 95-metre chemical and product tanker owned by Bergen Tankers and supplying diesel and petrol along the Norwegian coastline in trade for Statoil. "The 'Bergen Viking' project demonstrates that LNG is an option not just for new vessels but can be successfully retrofitted into existing ships to deliver significant economic and environmental benefits for owners," said John Knudsen, Rolls-Royce's President for the Commercial Marine division.
