June 16 (LNGJ) - MacGregor, part of the Finnish-owned cargo-handling machinery maker Cargotec, has signed a contract with Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering in South Korea to supply a range of deck machinery for 10 LNG carriers of 172,600 cubic metres capacity. The ships will work for the Yamal LNG project on the Yamal Peninsula in the Russian Arctic. MacGregor said it would deliver electrically-driven deck machinery, windlasses and mooring winches, all optimized for operations in very low temperatures. Delivery is planned to start in 2017. "MacGregor was awarded the contract because it can deliver equipment that complies with the demanding technical requirements of operating in extremely cold conditions," said Alexander Nurnberg, Vice President for Auxiliary and Machinery Systems business at MacGregor.
