Aug 29 (LNGJ) - Framo, the leading manufacturer of submerged pumping systems for the tanker shipping and offshore industry and based in the Norwegian port of Bergen, won a contract for equipment for an LNG newbuild. Framo will supply sea water lift pumps for a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) ordered by fleet owner GasLog from Samsung Heavy Industries of South Korea. The order was placed shortly after Framo signed a supply agreement for similar pump systems for an FSRUs under construction at the same Korean yard for Norwegian shipowner Hoegh LNG. “This represents acknowledgement of our ultra-compact pump concept that is now gaining a solid position on the FSRU market,” said Thorbjorn Vagenes, Director Oil and Gas pumping systems at Framo. “In comparison with conventional pump systems, Framo's pumps provide significant savings on space and eliminate the need for a separate pump room onboard the ship,” the company added.
