Nov 4 (LNGJ) - The opening of Sabine Pass, the first liquefied natural gas export plant on the Gulf Coast, marked the onset of a new demand source, with deliveries to the facility averaging 0.6 billion cubic feet per day in the April-to-October injection season when US demand reached record levels. Net natural gas exports to Mexico also increased as new cross-border pipelines came online. According to the latest data published by the US Energy Information Administration, natural gas consumption and net exports averaged 71.4 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d), 2 Bcf/d above the 2015 injection season, which held the previous record. “The rise in natural gas use for electricity generation was a primary driver of demand,” the EIA said.
