Oct 18 (LNGJ) - Russian natural gas company Gazprom said its Chairman Alexey Miller signed a memorandum of understanding with Sanjay Gupta, Chairman and Managing Director of Engineers India, on jointly exploring possible routes to India for pipeline natural gas supplies from Russia and other countries. Gazprom pointed out that while LNG importer India ranks fourth in energy consumption worldwide, it consumed just 56.5 billion cubic metres of natural gas, or 7 percent of its energy mix. “India’s need for gas imports will increase three-fold as early as 2022 and more than six-fold by 2030,” Miller said. “Gazprom and Indian companies have significant prospects for mutually beneficial cooperation in the gas industry,” he added.
