Oct 18 (LNGJ) - Russian natural gas company Gazprom said its Chairman Alexey Miller signed a memorandum of understanding with Sanjay Gupta, Chairman and Managing Director of Engineers India, on jointly exploring possible routes to India for pipeline natural gas supplies from Russia and other countries. Gazprom pointed out that while LNG importer India ranks fourth in energy consumption worldwide, it consumed just 56.5 billion cubic metres of natural gas, or 7 percent of its energy mix. “India’s need for gas imports will increase three-fold as early as 2022 and more than six-fold by 2030,” Miller said. “Gazprom and Indian companies have significant prospects for mutually beneficial cooperation in the gas industry,” he added.
Russian natural gas giant Gazprom and China National Petroleum Corp. (CNPC), the state-owned Chinese company with a stake in the Russian Yamal LNG project, have held talks in Beijing on the supply of more pipeline gas to the Chinese and greater cooperation on LNG and storage.
Royal Dutch Shell Chief Executive Ben van Beurden and Russian Gazprom Chairman Alexei Miller signed an agreement at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum to further their cooperation in the liquefied natural gas market and the Nord Stream pipeline project.
