March 21 (LNGJ) - Chinese LNG monthly imports rose just over 12 percent in February to 1.85 million tonnes compared with the same month a year ago and the nation is on track to import at least 22MT in 2016, China’s General Administration of Customs said. LNG imports into China reached 2.6 billion cubic feet per day, the annual equivalent in LNG of 19.63MT, in 2015 as Asia's economic powerhouse slowed down. China remains the world's largest energy consumer and the third-largest importer of LNG after Japan and South Korea and should overtake the Koreans on LNG by 2020. China has 13 LNG import terminals with a combined capacity of 5.4 billion cubic feet per day, allowing it to import over 40 MTPA if required.
