Jan 21 (LNGJ) - Teekay LNG's 165,500 cubic metres capacity carrier "Magellan Spirit" was transferring most of its cargo to the Excelerate Energy vessel "Excellence" as part of a refloat operation in the Niger Delta near the Nigerian LNG plant where the Teekay ship ran aground in soft mud on January 5. The "Excellence" will take on board about 80 percent of the Teekay ship's cargo in the ship-to-ship transfer, Teekay said. The LNG carrier, chartered to Swiss-based commodities trading firm Vitol, was on its way to the Gwangyang LNG import terminal in South Korea when the incident occurred. The cargo transfer was initiated after a failed attempt to refloat the vessel with tugs.
