Jan 23 - Japan's demand for power, partly fuelled by LNG, is already lower in January 2012 by more than 6 percent in terms of sales compared with last year because of government savings programmes and milder temperatures. Japan has nine LNG-buying mainland power utilities from Hokkaido Electric Power Co. in the north to Kyushu Electric in the south. The milder winter temperatures have meant sligthly less Japanese demand than expected for LNG spot cargoes at very high prices.
