In the last of a three-part series on LNG finance and risk from leading global law firm White & Case, partner Matthias Schemuth looks at the bigger financing picture.
In 2006 the International Energy Agency estimated that, in the Middle East and Africa alone, $1.05 trillion of investment in the oil and gas sectors would be required by 2030 to meet the worlds upwardly spiralling energy requirements.
With global gas demand expected to increase by around one-third by 2015 and a huge surge in LNG production expected to account for satisfying much of this, the global LNG industry is going to soak up a significant portion of this forecast global investment.
