New Sonatrach Chief Executive Abdelhamid Zerguine, a former vice-president of the Algerian state energy company's pipelines division, has pledged to put the leading LNG supplier to Europe on a steadier path after almost two years of turmoil caused by a corruption scandal. An engineer by profession, Zerguine replaces Nourredine Cherouati who was appointed in May 2010 after the previous CEO, Mohamed Meziane, was removed as part of a judicial investigation into corrupt practices in the awarding of contracts. Sonatrach is completing two LNG projects currently behind schedule.
