Det Norske Veritas, the Norwegian classification society, has taken the initiative in a full-scale measurement campaign to study sloshing impact forces in LNG membrane tanks.

This is one of several phases in a research program. A Joint Industry Project (JIP) managed by DNV was launched together with BW Gas of Norway, Canada's Teekay, Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering of South Korea, Lloyd's Register in the UK and France's GTT.

The 148,000 cubic metres capacity LNG carrier, the "LNG Imo", was selected for the investigation.
