Alaska’s Cook Inlet LNG, a subsidiary of Gardes Holdings, is partnering with Glacier Oil & Gas to develop an FSRU project as a ‘bridge’, while longer-term Alaskan Southcentral energy solutions come to fruition.
Glacier operates the onshore West MacArthur River project and the offshore Osprey platform in the Redoubt section.
Cook Inlet plans to moor the FSRU alongside the Osprey platform on the west side of the inlet to supply 22 bill cu ft of gas per year.
Mooring anchors placed on the seafloor would be the only new infrastructure required, the company claimed.
The FSRU would be supplied by LNGCs about once every 30 to 45 days during the winter, with longer durations in the summer.
Cook Inlet LNG has initiated the process of obtaining regulatory approvals from the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), the US Coast Guard and other regulatory agencies.
First gas from the FSRU is expected in mid-2029.
The project is claimed to be privately funded, and once in operation, gas costs to utilities and rate payers would be approved by the Regulatory Commission of Alaska, which applies to other gas supply contracts.
