Norwegian energy company Equinor and UK giant Shell have formed Adura, which will become the North Sea’s’ largest independent oil and gas producer.

Adura is an incorporated joint venture between Equinor and Shell.

This new energy entity’s creation follows a December, 2024 announcement that Equinor and Shell would combine their UK offshore oil and gas assets and expertise.

Headquartered in Aberdeen, Adura aims to sustain domestic energy production and security of supply in the UK and beyond, the companies said.

Its launch is expected by the end of this year, pending regulatory approvals.
