Three construction workers have died and two were injured following an accident at the Texas Port Arthur LNG construction site.
Officials said that on Tuesday morning, scaffolding gave way and two employees fell to their deaths. A third worker who also fell later died in hospital.
Authorities said the local Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating.
There was no immediate details given on what caused the scaffolding to collapse.
The collapse occurred inside the plant construction site and prompted an immediate stoppage at the large industrial construction project.
This site is Phase 1 of Port Arthur LNG, which is a joint venture between Sempra Infrastructure and ConocoPhillips and being developed by Bechtel.
In a statement, Bechtel said; “We are deeply saddened to confirm a tank jump form system incident occurred at elevation on 29th April at the Port Arthur LNG construction site, resulting in three fatalities and two injuries.
“Our thoughts are with the families and our colleagues affected by this tragic incident.
“All work at the site was immediately stopped following the incident, and we have sent all craft professionals home early to be with their families during this difficult time.
“We are co-operating fully with local authorities as investigations continue and have launched our own internal review. Supporting those impacted and ensuring site safety remain our top priorities.
“Further information will be shared as it becomes available,” the engineering company said.
