PetroVietnam Gas Corp (PV Gas) is planning to add an FSRU to its LNG terminal.
This is part of a plan to provide what it calls stable and sustainable gas source solutions for power generation in Vietnam in the next five years, local sources have reported.
During a meeting with Vietnam Electricity (EVN), PV Gas committed to increasing the regasification capacity at its Thi Vai LNG terminal from 5.7 mill standard cu m per day to 7 mill cu m from this month.
This move will help EVN ensure reserve capacity in the forthcoming dry seasons when electricity demand is high.
PV Gas also intends to deploy an FSRU at Vung Tau between 2026/2029. The unit will have a capacity of between 135,000 and 174,000 cu m of LNG and a regasification capacity of up to 14 mill cu m per day, bringing the system’s total regasification capacity to 22 mill cu m per day.
The Thi Vai LNG terminal was inaugurated in October, 2023. PV Gas said it is ramping up the investments needed to increase its original capacity of 1 mill tonnes per annum to 3 mill tonnes by 2029 as part of Phase 2.
