Russia to build Murmansk LNG terminal

The Russian Government has approved the specifications of an LNG terminal in Murmansk Region, according to the Interfax newswire.

It will have a capacity for 20.4 mill tonnes per year.

NOVATEK CEO, Leonid Mikhelson had said earlier that the company was exploring the possibility of carrying out a new large-scale LNG project in Murmansk Region consisting of three trains with capacity of 6.8 mill tonnes each.

Later, details from an environmental impact assessment (EIS) of the design documentation for the terminal revealed that its full handling capacity would be 13.6 mill tonnes of LNG per year in two phases of 6.8 mill tonnes each.

It was reported that the terminal would be built in several stages from 2027 to 2030.
