Dec 4 (LNGJ) - A South African official attending an LNG conference in Rome said the country may start a tendering process in 2016 for a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) to enable LNG imports. The country is seeking to ease its power shortages and increase its capacity to produce more electricity from natural gas. South Africa only has small volumes of natural gas offshore and this is mainly used to supply the Mossel Bay gas-to-liquids plant, run by national energy company PetroSA. A recent $1 billion offshore drilling campaign along South Africa's southern coast failed to yield any commercial quantities of gas.
