Hungary has received its first LNG shipment from the Croatian FSRU import terminal at Krk.
This added a new method and route to the country’s domestic gas supply chain, which currently mainly serves the transport industry.
As a result, industrial use could also be forthcoming soon, according to ARELGAS Kft.
After ARELGAS became the first Hungarian company to operate an LNG tanker vehicle, the possibility has opened for gas to arrive not only by pipeline but also by vehicles or ‘virtual pipelines,’ from Krk, which is the closest LNG import terminal to Hungary.
The arrival of the first Hungarian LNG vehicle from Krk and the subsequent transfer to the gas storage tank, is a milestone in terms of security of supply, diversification of the transport route, and the possibility of cost reduction.
The shortening of the transport route to supply industrial customers and thus more accurate scheduling of the delivery is an important result of this project, the company said.
Currently, Hungary has three LNG filling stations, and next year this number will double to meet the needs of the growing number of LNG-powered vehicles, local media said.
