Canadian gas imports vital to balance US demand during winter peak

Despite falling volumes, Canadian pipeline gas imports remain important to balance US markets, particularly during the winter, when cold temperatures drive up gas demand for heating. Imports in the eastern US generally peak in January or February at approximately 2 Bcf/d – except for February 2021, when the winter storm Uri pushed up imports to 9.5 Bcf/d.
