US Permitting Pause Successfully Challenged in Court

A US District Court has stayed the Department of Energy’s pause on natural gas export permits to non-FTA countries, a crucial permit to make large-scale US LNG exports economically viable. However, the Department has hinted it may appeal the decision. Pressure is building as time is running out for the existing permits of several US LNG projects currently under construction or in various stages of planning. Meanwhile, US LNG exports have continued to grow year-on-year in 1H 2024.
