Petrobas Set to Permanently Loosen Grip on LNG in Brazil

Brazil is gearing up to accelerate a fundamental shift in its gas market, with federal competition regulator CADE overseeing the beginning of Petrobras’ gradual withdrawal from its monopoly position in the country’s energy economy. Whilst an attempt at opening the market in 2019 failed due to Petrobras’ systemic importance, this year already saw Golar Power gain an independent, if small, foothold in Brazil’s LNG market.
