Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (Class NK), the Japanese classification society, says it has new rules for floating offshore facilities for LNG production, storage and offloading.

JGC Corp., the leading Japanese LNG engineering company, will have its contract for the Donggi-Senoro LNG project in Indonesia underwritten by state body Nippon Export & Investment Insurance to the tune of more than $1 billion.

Demand for LNG in Japan is expected to expand by several million tonnes this summer and there are question marks over how the global market will cope, says a report from Japan.

Inpex and four other Japanese energy companies have set up a company called Japan Far East Gas Co.  and signed an agreement with Russian natural gas giant Gazprom for pre-engineering studies for an LNG project in the Vladivostok area of the Russian Far East.
