Gulf United Energy of the US said it agreed to participate in the development of a new LNG import terminal on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula.

Foster Wheeler, the LNG engineering company, confirmed that a joint venture it’s part of  was awarded the engineering, procurement, and construction management contract by Australia’s Woodside for the onshore portion of the US$10 billion Pluto LNG project in Western Australia.

Woodside Energy, the operator of the Northwest Shelf LNG plant in Western Australia that exports worldwide, said it was forced to shutdown production today because of a fault.

Gaz de France said it reached an agreement with Algerian energy company Sonatrach to extend its supply contract for LNG to 2019 and under current market prices the deal is worth about $3.5 billion.

Qatar Petroleum and BP said they signed of a memorandum of understanding to develop and fund a world-class LNG safety research programme in Qatar, the world’s largest LNG producer.

The start-up of development of the $30-billion Shtokman gas field in the Barents Sea, including LNG infrastructure, is scheduled for the second quarter of 2008, according to a senior executive of the project consortium. 

KLNG, a UK subsidiary of the K-Line group of Japan, said it took delivery of a new LNG carrier, the “Celestine River” constructed at Kawasaki Shipbuilding Corporation’s Sakaide shipyard in Japan.
