A leading Japanese LNG buyer told the European Autumn Gas Conference that the LNG price differential between Europe and Asia would begin to close after 2016 because North American shale gas and the creation of natural gas pipeline hubs in China would ease price pressures.
Yuji Kakimi, Director of Fuels for Chubu Electric, Japan's third-largest LNG buyer after Tokyo Gas and Tokyo Electric Power Co., made his forecast at the EAGC in Paris as he pointed to the fact that Japanese utilities currently pay 50 percent more for their LNG cargoes than European buyers.
