US ponders LNG export effect on domestic pricing

The US Energy Department said its main consideration for deciding on exports of surplus US natural gas from shale resources as LNG was the price impact on the domestic market and whether Americans would have to pay more for natural gas.

Christopher Smith, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Oil & Natural Gas in the DoE's Office of Fossil Energy, said in a speech to the US Association of Energy Economists in Washington DC is spending more time on the issue as more LNG export applications are being received.
