LNG industry warned of growing threat from piracy

Monday, 26 September 2011

Concern is growing about the threat of piracy in shipping lanes used by LNG carriers as the perpetrators become more bold and their approach more violent, according to security experts operating in ship protection in the waters leading from the Suez Canal.

“When the Somali Pirates first struck, it was big news.  The reality is that piracy in the waters leading from the Suez Canal is a paying business and has not stopped,” said a senior executive of Armed-Piracy-Defence Inc. (APD), one of the security companies operating on board vessels.
