Asia outbids Europe in LNG quest – or switches to coal

Asian LNG buyers are outcompeting European rivals in a scramble for spot cargoes, as the Strait of Hormuz closure reverted the price-setting power to Asia Pacific. Most utility buyers simply switch to coal, especially in Southeast Asia where cash-strapped importers “cannot compete aggressively for alternative volumes.
