CNOOC and Sinopec have won the majority of licenses in Iraq’s latest licencing round – ahead of the Iraqi-Kurdish firm KAR while Western majors abstained. Iraq wants to boost domestic gas production to transition from fuel oil to cleaner-burning gas in the power sector and end to gas imports from Iran.
