Decarbonisation is progressing fast in China, with renewables set to quintuple by 2050 while efficiency improvements could make the country’s electricity use peak by 2030 and fall by 20 percent through to 2050, DNV analysts find. Electrification, falling energy intensity of industries and a shrinking population will contribute to the decline in energy use.
